Derek Acorah: Real or Fraud?

Derek Acorah
December 29th, 2014

Spirit mediums are people who can communicate with the dead. It seems that they can tap into the metaphysical world and reach out to the spirits.

In the history of the US, there have been a lot of mediums who claim that they are real and they make a business out of their gift. Apparently, some of them have been found to be fake. Some survive the criticisms and have chosen to retire or stay away from the spotlight. Some are still trying to return to the spotlight to clear their reputation. Such is the life of Derek Acorah.

Who is Derek Acorah?

Derek Acorah’s real name is Derek Francis Johnson. He lived in Liverpool as a child. His abilities as a medium surfaced when he was still young. His grandmother noticed this and she was not surprised as she was a medium herself. She claimed that her gift was bound to be inherited by one of her descendants.

Before Acorah became a famous medium on TV, he was a professional football player. He played for different teams. At the end of his professional football career, he settled down in his hometown, Liverpool.

During this time, he failed to find a good job. However, he noticed that he was always bothered by his abilities as a medium. So he decided to concentrate on his special gift.

Derek Acorah’s Life on the Spotlight

When Acorah started using his gifts, it wasn’t always on live television. He first started locally. He held a sit down session with his clients and helped them communicate with their departed loved ones. Soon, news of his accuracy and insight spread and more and more people approached him for his services. A friend and fellow psychic told him that he was about to become famous, and he did.

Later he was approached to star in a popular TV show Livetime and do tea leaf readings. He made a stunning performance that he was asked to come back almost on a weekly basis. Later on, his fame grew and the network wanted to utilize his talents. He was given his own show and soon he was featured in the hit TV show Most Haunted.

Unfortunately, his time in Most Haunted took a different turn for his career. He was on the show for years but at one point a skeptic disproved his talents and it was televised for everyone to see. The skeptic planted false information on Acorah leading him to communicate with a false spirit. The skeptic revealed this information and Acorah was removed from the show.

Acorah, however, would not stand down. To this day, Derek Acorah still has a number of shows that showcase his talents. He has also written books about paranormal activities.
