As children, when we hear the words “look up to the sky”, we follow it with, “Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Superman!” We get excited. Superman, the all-powerful superhero is here to save the day. As we grow older, we remember that Superman is an extraterrestrial. He lived in a planet called Krypton. So now, when we hear “look up to the sky”, we might be looking at a UFO.
Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) is a term widely used to identify things we see in the sky that we cannot explain. As time goes by, the number of UFO sightings has increased with numerous objects floating in mid-air, with lights in their exterior, moving like no normal human made aircraft can ever do. All of these actually excite people rather than scare them. How cool is it to actually see a UFO?
Here are some of the most notable UFO sightings and encounters to date:
Barney and Betty Hill Abduction (1961)
There is a history of abductions that baffled the world and intrigued the UFO enthusiasts. The Hill couple claimed to have been abducted by aliens. At first, they don’t remember the encounter, but later on recounted a medical examination-like experience with gray aliens. They stick to their story even when placed under hypnosis.
Tehran Incident (1976)
In 1976 Iranian jet fighters were ordered to chase a UFO detected by radar. This was the first instance where a UFO was detected by radar. The pilots experienced electronic equipment failure as they neared the object. Weapons system seemed to fail whenever they were ready to fire at the UFO.
Belgium Incident (1990)
It’s rare to have a UFO sighting that has a lot of witnesses, picked up by ground controllers and aircraft weapon’s radar. In 1990 in Belgium, an object of triangular shape with lights apparently glowing under it was seen and photographed. To date, it is the best documented sighting in history.
One of the most famous and iconic UFO sighting, and crash event, is the Roswell incident. Matt Brazell witnessed the event. He saw what seemed to be a shot down wreckage of UFO which was claimed to be a crashed weather balloon by the government. Later, an intelligence officer of the Air Force claimed that it was extraterrestrial.
The Sun (2012)
In more recent years, it’s actually mindboggling to spot a purported UFO on the Sun. Yes, the uninhabitable ball of nuclear fusion has apparently been visited by UFOs. In this sighting, the scientists saw a huge object that seemed to be attached to the Sun. Some believe that this is a giant spaceship trying to refuel from the Sun and detached when its tank was full.
With the startling evidence and sightings, it’s hard to ignore that UFOs exist. Even NASA does not discount this probability. As the saying by Arthur C. Clarke goes, “Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.”
It looks like the first terrifying part of the statement is true.
